Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill and State Rep. Seth Grove recently recognized the remarkable life and service of 100-year-old World War II veteran Quentin Stambaugh in Harrisburg this week. Stambaugh, a respected member of the Spring Grove community, served his country with honor during the war and continued to contribute to society upon his return.

Mr. Stambaugh, a Pennsylvania native, enlisted in the U.S. military after graduating from West York High School. He underwent rigorous training and eventually deployed to the Pacific Theater, where he flew in 38 combat missions and demonstrated exceptional skill and bravery. General George Kenney, Commander of the Allied Forces in the Southwest Pacific, commended Stambaugh for his "Meritorious Achievement" during his missions, highlighting his significant contributions to the war effort.

Upon his return home, Mr. Stambaugh continued to serve his community by working at PH Gladfelter and later serving as a magistrate in York County for 24 years. Rep. Grove expressed his admiration for Stambaugh, stating, "Mr. Stambaugh is a Pennsylvania-born American hero. We must never forget the sacrifices he and other members of the Greatest Generation made to keep America free during some of the world’s darkest hours."

Sen. Phillips-Hill echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the debt of gratitude owed to Stambaugh and his fellow servicemen for their courage and dedication during World War II. She noted, "We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Mr. Stambaugh and his fellow servicemen for their courage to defend our nation during one of our most challenging times during World War II."

In December 1945, Mr. Stambaugh was honorably discharged and returned to York County, where he resides to this day, a living testament to the resilience and bravery of the Greatest Generation.
