The Dads Defending Daughters group, which includes several Pennsylvania House Republicans, issued a statement criticizing the House Education Committee’s decision to re-refer two bills intended to address fairness in women’s sports to the House Judiciary Committee. This move effectively postponed a vote on these measures, which seek to regulate interscholastic sports policies regarding the participation of transgender athletes.
The group consists of Representatives Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford), Eric Davanzo (R-Westmoreland), Joe D’Orsie (R-York), Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne), and Joe Hamm (R-Lycoming/Sullivan). Rep. Joseph D’Orsie represents the 47th District in York County and has focused on legislative initiatives supporting businesses, education, and families in Pennsylvania. He also serves on committees related to commerce and special education. More about his work can be found at his official website and district page.
In their statement, the lawmakers said: “It’s disgraceful that House Democrats refuse to vote on an issue that would protect the rights of women and girl athletes to compete on a level playing field. Both bills sent to the House Judiciary Committee today deal with interscholastic sports policies, not civil or criminal issues typically handled by this committee.
“Apparently House Democrats are fine with our daughters being beaten out by biological males in sports specifically designated for women and girls. Apparently, they are OK with those same biological males changing in women’s locker rooms. Apparently, they are OK with female athletes being robbed of scholarships and other competitive opportunities because they aren’t being given the level playing field promised all those years ago when Title IV was adopted.
“Polls indicate 80% of people support polices that ensure fairness in women’s sports. So why are Democrats so insistent on not even bringing this bill up for a vote? The legislative gymnastics have to stop. Our girls – our daughters – deserve better.”
According to the group, this is not the first time such legislation has been redirected without a vote; Senate Bill 9, another Fairness in Women’s Sports bill which passed the Senate with bipartisan support, was similarly referred from one committee to another without action.
Rep. Joseph D’Orsie has advocated for reforms including pharmacy benefit manager oversight and support for small businesses while serving as chair of the Republican Subcommittee on Special Education. He maintains offices both in Hellam Township and Harrisburg to provide constituent services. His district covers areas within York County such as Conewago, Manchester, East Manchester, Hellam townships, and several boroughs as detailed here.
D’Orsie has received recognition from organizations like the National Federation of Independent Businesses for his advocacy efforts according to his official site. He continues working on bipartisan measures aimed at improving public safety and protections for minors within his district.
