The Pennsylvania Senate has approved several bills aimed at improving local government operations in the state. The legislation was advanced by the Senate Local Government Committee, which is chaired by Senator Dawn Keefer (R-31).

A notable part of this legislative package is Senate Bill 1036, introduced by Senator Keefer. This bill consolidates the First Class Township Code into Title 73, a move intended to simplify access to local government laws for both lawmakers and the public.

Other measures were also passed as part of this effort to make local governments more efficient and accessible.

“The bipartisan support for these bills reflects our commitment to practical, thoughtful legislation that empowers local leaders,” said Keefer. “By improving local government operations, we are ensuring communities across Pennsylvania are stronger, more efficient and better able to serve their residents.”

Senate leaders say that these new laws represent an important step in supporting municipalities throughout Pennsylvania.
