A majority of voters and parents in Pennsylvania support educational choice, but the only obstacle holding it back is money and its effects on power, control, and politics. This is leading to a lack of accountability and negatively affecting the future of our children. Educational choice is not just a matter of preference, but a modern-day human rights issue that prioritizes the freedom of young people to excel.

Pennsylvania is lagging behind other states in terms of educational choice programs. States like Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Arizona have already implemented robust choice programs, allowing every child the opportunity to receive an education that suits their needs. It's time for Pennsylvania to follow suit and step out of the box.

The need for educational choice is evident. It not only benefits children who are trapped in underperforming schools but also caters to children with specialized skills or different learning styles. Moreover, it provides flexibility for highly talented musicians or athletes who may benefit from a cyber experience. Every child and parent deserves the chance to excel.

Despite the increase in public funding for education, there is no evidence that more money translates into better student outcomes. In fact, about two-thirds of fourth graders in Pennsylvania are not proficient in reading. Enrollment in public schools is declining, yet districts continue to add more administrators while teacher salaries remain stagnant. It's clear that more money alone is not the solution.

Numerous studies have shown the positive impact of choice programs on test results, parent favorability, school security, and fiscal considerations. Choice programs work and do not harm public schools or neglect rural and special education students. False prophecies aimed at halting choice have been debunked in states like Arizona, Florida, and Ohio.

To address these issues, Representative Joe D'Orsie has introduced the Student Freedom Account Act in Pennsylvania. This act would establish accounts administered by the Treasurer to empower parents to use their tax dollars to send their children to the school of their choice. It's time to shift our attention from ourselves to our kids and give them the freedom to excel.

Educational choice is not a threat to public schools but a necessary step towards providing the best education for every child. It's time for Pennsylvania to embrace educational choice and prioritize the future of our next generation.
