Born December 30: NFL executive known for team rebuilding
Ron Wolf was born December 30, 1938, and raised in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Susquehannock High School. He attended Maryville College and later transferred to the University of Oklahoma. In 1963, he began working for the Oakland Raiders as a scout. He helped build multiple successful teams. He later worked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets, and returned to the Raiders. In 1991, he became general manager of the Green Bay Packers. He hired coach Mike Holmgren and traded for quarterback Brett Favre. He also signed free agent Reggie White. The team won Super Bowl XXXI under his leadership. He retired in 2001. Wolf was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015. This week, New Freedom recognizes his birth and long NFL career. His early years in the city helped shape a life in football.
