Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., president and CEO of WellSpan Health, has been named a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania for 2025. She is one of nine women recognized this year for their professional accomplishments and volunteer service that have significantly impacted the state. The Distinguished Daughters of Pennsylvania award has been presented annually since 1949.
Governor Josh Shapiro commented on the recognition, stating, “Since its inception, the Distinguished Daughters has been honoring extraordinary women for their outstanding service and contributions to our Commonwealth. The women we recognize bring an incredible wealth of experience and knowledge, are leaders in their respective fields, and have showcased extraordinary professionalism in all aspects of their careers. The Commonwealth is proud to claim each of the Distinguished Daughters as our own, as each of their stories reflect Pennsylvania’s rich past and herald the promise of a bright future through collaborative service.”
Gapstur’s leadership at WellSpan Health has contributed to advancements in healthcare innovation within Pennsylvania. Under her direction, WellSpan has adopted AI-powered tools aimed at simplifying care delivery. In addition to her work in healthcare, Gapstur oversees an organization employing 23,000 people and generating $6.6 billion in annual regional economic impact. In 2024, WellSpan allocated $346 million toward community benefit programs supporting affordable care, mental health services, and social initiatives focused on removing barriers to care.
Beyond her role at WellSpan Health, Gapstur serves on several boards such as the Cultural Alliance of York County and the Downtown Renaissance Fund, where she promotes economic growth and community development.
