Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) is hosting Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) Assistance events to help constituents in the 169th District process their applications for the program. Klunk is offering additional opportunities for constituents to receive aid from her office at no cost. Klunk highlighted the program's expansion, stating, "In 2023, the governor signed into law a bipartisan initiative to expand the popular PTRR program, making an estimated 150,000 additional Pennsylvanians eligible."
The PTRR assistance events will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from noon to 3 p.m. at Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover, and on Tuesday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Freedom Borough office council chambers in New Freedom.
The program benefits eligible residents who are 65 years and older, widows and widowers who are 50 years and older, and people with disabilities who are 18 years and older. To complete the application, individuals need to provide paid, stamped property taxes from 2023 or a renter's certificate signed by the landlord.
The program expansion, effective for property taxes and rent paid in 2023, has increased the income limits to $45,000. All income sources are considered, except for half of an individual's Social Security income. The maximum amount each homeowner or renter can receive has also been increased from $650 to $1,000.
Klunk expressed her support for the program, stating, "I am proud to support a program that helps make Pennsylvania a more affordable place to live, especially during a time when our seniors are dealing with an increased cost of living."
Appointments are required for the events, and constituents are advised to call Klunk's office at 717-630-8942 to reserve a timeslot. Klunk's staff will also provide guidance on the necessary documentation for first-time filers.
