Rep. Joe D’Orsie (R-York) will be introducing a new legislation in Pennsylvania aimed at providing greater educational choice for students and their parents. The proposed legislation, called the Student Freedom Account Program, will be discussed by D’Orsie and other representatives at a press conference to be held on Monday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. in the main rotunda at the state Capitol complex in Harrisburg.

Joining D’Orsie at the press conference will be Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh/Montgomery/Northampton), a former teacher, and former House member Andrew Lewis, who previously authored educational choice legislation. Also in attendance will be Myles Slade-Bowers from the American Federation for Children and Hera Varmah, a Harrisburg native and beneficiary of the EITC scholarship, who now works as a communications and events assistant at The American Federation for Children.

The proposed Student Freedom Account Program aims to provide more options for students and their families when it comes to choosing their educational path. By creating these accounts, students will have the opportunity to use funds allocated for their education in a way that best suits their needs.

The press conference will be livestreamed on Rep. Joe D’Orsie's website, RepJoeD.com, unless there are any technical difficulties. For media inquiries, please contact Greg Gross at 717.260.6374 or ggross@pahousegop.com.

"This legislation will empower students and their parents by giving them the freedom to choose the educational options that work best for them," said Rep. D’Orsie.

"I am thrilled to support this legislation that will give parents and students more choices in their education," added Rep. Mackenzie.

"I am proud to have authored previous educational choice legislation and I believe that this new program will further enhance the opportunities available to students," commented former House member Andrew Lewis.

"The American Federation for Children fully supports this initiative and believes that it will benefit students and families across Pennsylvania," said Myles Slade-Bowers.

"As a beneficiary of the EITC scholarship and someone who has witnessed the positive impact of school choice firsthand, I am excited about the potential of the Student Freedom Account Program," expressed Hera Varmah.

The press conference on Monday will serve as an important platform for discussing the proposed legislation and its potential impact on education in Pennsylvania.
