HARRISBURG – Following the passage of a budget that breaks the record for state spending, the York County Republican delegation to the House, consisting of House Appropriations Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover) and Reps. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Mike Jones (R-York Township), Joe D’Orsie (R-Manchester), Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg), and Wendy Fink (R-Red Lion), issued the following statement:

"The best way to describe the budget passed out of the House today is reckless. House Democrat leadership in conjunction with Gov. Josh Shapiro worked to push through an overdue budget that racks up nearly $2.7 billion in new spending, a 6% increase over last year.

"The new spending rate is also well above the maximum that would be allowed if Pennsylvanians had a safeguard like the Taxpayer Protection Act in place. Under it, spending could not be increased by more than 5.5%. Passage of the budget today truly highlights the need for the spending caps outlined in that bill. This type of spending spree will require the state to pass massive tax increases in order to balance the budget in the near future.

"Since gaining control of the House, Democrats have increased spending by nearly $5 billion in just two years. This includes nearly $3 billion in new spending in the $47.6 billion 2024-25 budget. Spending at this rate will lead to financial disaster for decades to come, leaving our children and their children to pick up the tab.

"For those reasons, and many more, we could not in good conscience support the House Democrats’ spend-heavy budget. It stands in stark contrast to how we believe government should function and what the people we are privileged to represent want from their state government."
