Sen. Mike Regan announced the allocation of over $5.6 million in state grants aimed at enhancing community and economic development projects in Cumberland and York counties. The Commonwealth Financing Authority's (CFA) Local Share Account (LSA) Program provided more than $4.6 million for initiatives that support public interest, community improvement, and economic development through funds generated by casino gaming.

“These grants provide funding for a variety of projects that will improve the quality of life for residents in Cumberland and York counties,” Regan stated. “The state partners with local communities by providing financial resources to support neighborhood projects.”

In Cumberland County, several key projects received funding: the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation was awarded $575,000 to acquire land and build a skatepark at Youth4Link in New Cumberland Borough. Additionally, the corporation received over $457,000 to purchase 300 automated external defibrillators for the Peyton Walker Foundation, which will distribute them to trained volunteers across eight central Pennsylvania counties. Mechanicsburg Borough secured $500,000 for a streetscape project at the borough’s center square.

York County also benefited from these grants: West Manchester Township received nearly $625,000 for storm sewer improvements within the Hayward neighborhood; West York Borough was granted $150,000 to purchase new municipal vehicles; Fairview Township obtained $200,000 for new maintenance equipment; York County was allocated $225,000 for upgrades at Camp Tuckahoe in Franklin Township.

The York County Economic Alliance received multiple grants totaling over $1.8 million for various renovation projects including the York City welcome center and a historic building on behalf of Theater Arts for Everyone.

The CFA operates as an independent agency under the Department of Community and Economic Development and manages numerous programs focused on economic development and community enhancement across Pennsylvania.

An additional grant through the CFA’s Public School Facilities Improvement Grant (PSFIG) Program awarded Mechanicsburg Area School District $1 million to replace its HVAC system and enhance cooling facilities at Mechanicsburg Area Middle School.
