Recent events in Philadelphia have led to significant financial losses, according to Pennsylvania Senator Mike Regan. Rioting in the city has resulted in damage and disruption, with businesses and local residents facing the consequences.

Senator Regan, Chairman of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, praised the efforts of the Philadelphia City Police for their role in maintaining order. "The Police are doing their job in reestablishing law and order," he stated. However, he criticized District Attorney Larry Krasner for his approach to prosecuting offenders, suggesting it contributes to ongoing issues.

The economic impact of these incidents is substantial. "Tourists are too fearful to visit. Businesses are relocating to other cities," Regan noted. The rioting has affected liquor stores across Philadelphia, causing estimated daily losses between $750,000 and $1 million when stores remain closed.

Additionally, a medical marijuana dispensary was targeted during looting activities. While authorities have not disclosed details on what was stolen, the incident adds to the challenges faced by business owners dealing with damages.

Senator Regan emphasized that costs incurred from these events will eventually affect everyone through increased prices on goods and insurance premiums. He also highlighted the need for continued police funding and protection.

"We not only need to continue funding the police but also protecting them," Regan remarked. He expressed support for legislation targeting those involved in rioting, particularly out-of-state participants and individuals using social media to incite unrest.

Senator Mike Regan represents Pennsylvania’s 31st Senatorial District, covering parts of Cumberland and York Counties.
