Rep. Joe D’Orsie of Manchester has announced his committee assignments for the 2025-26 Legislative Session in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He will serve on four committees: Commerce, Communications and Technology, Education, and Labor and Industry.
These committees play a crucial role in reviewing and refining legislation before it is presented to the full House for consideration. They also provide the first opportunity to amend and debate bills.
D’Orsie will be part of the newly established Communications and Technology Committee, where he plans to address technological issues such as social media, artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency, and broadband internet access. "The assignments provide me an excellent opportunity to represent a nice mix of the issues and interests that directly impact the residents of York County," D’Orsie stated. He added that his background in communications would positively contribute to drafting legislation for this rapidly evolving industry.
In addition to his new role, D’Orsie returns for a second term on three other committees. This session sees him appointed as Republican chairman of the Education Committee’s Subcommittee on Special Education.
The Education Committee addresses state matters related to public and private schools from pre-K through grade 12, as well as post-secondary education. The Commerce Committee is tasked with creating legislation affecting Pennsylvania companies, while the Labor and Industry Committee deals with job-related issues across the state including unemployment compensation, job training, child labor laws, workers’ compensation, and the Prevailing Wage Act.
Standing committees are essential in the legislative process as they review all bills assigned to them. They may hold hearings on proposed legislation, consider amendments to pending bills, and report them back to the full House for voting.
D’Orsie took office along with other House members on January 7th at the start of this new session. His district includes several townships such as Conewago, Manchester, East Manchester, Hellam; boroughs like Hallam, Manchester, Mount Wolf; Wrightsville; and parts of Springettsbury Township in York County.
