West Manchester Township has been awarded a $57,500 state grant to support the update of its sewage facilities plan. This announcement was made by Representative Seth Grove, who serves the Dover area.
Grove emphasized the importance of planning for future growth in municipal management. "Planning for future growth is a key part of running a successful municipality. This grant will assist West Manchester Township with surveying its existing sewer capabilities and plan for future development," he stated. He expressed gratitude towards the Commonwealth Financing Authority for their acknowledgment of this initiative's significance.
The updated plan will involve mapping current lots and structures, defining municipal boundaries, and assessing physical features such as streams, drainage basins, soils, geologic formations, and water supplies. It will also provide detailed information on existing sewage facilities, including treatment plants' locations, sizes, ownership details, pumping stations, force mains capacities, and any potential issues.
Additionally, the plan aims to address future growth and land development by summarizing relevant municipal and county planning documents. It will identify areas designated for current and future development while projecting population increases and housing needs.
The grant requires a 50% local match and was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority under its Sewage Facilities Program.
