State Representative Kate Klunk of Hanover has been appointed as the Republican chair of the House Children and Youth Committee for the 2025-26 Legislative Session. Klunk, who has prior experience on this committee, expressed her enthusiasm for taking on a leadership role to advocate for children in Pennsylvania.

“It is an honor to be appointed the Republican chair of the House Children and Youth Committee,” Klunk stated. She emphasized her past experiences with the committee, noting its positive impact through efforts in juvenile justice, adoption, and family law. "We are ensuring the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable residents are protected from abuse and can look toward a bright future," she added.

Klunk outlined her priorities in this new role, highlighting her intention to focus on children's voices. “One of my top priorities in this role is to elevate the voices of children themselves," she said. She aims to bring conversations with young constituents to the forefront to better understand their perspectives on relevant issues.

As a mother herself, Klunk acknowledged the importance of children not only within families but also as integral parts of Pennsylvania's future. “Our children are our future, and we must do everything to protect that," she concluded.

The House Children and Youth Committee is responsible for addressing issues related to Pennsylvania's youth, including maternal health, day care facilities, child pornography prevention, juvenile justice reforms, and preventing harm and abuse. The committee will conduct hearings across Pennsylvania to tackle challenges faced by children and families needing state services and support.
