State Rep. Joseph D'Orsie | Pennsylvania 47th Legislative District
Rep. Joe D’Orsie of Manchester has announced his committee assignments for the 2025-26 Legislative Session in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. D’Orsie will serve on four committees: Commerce, Communications and Technology, Education, and Labor and Industry.
Committees play a key role in evaluating and refining legislation before it reaches the full House for consideration. They provide an initial platform for amending and debating bills.
D’Orsie will be part of the newly established Communications and Technology Committee, where he is expected to address current technological issues such as social media, artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency, and broadband internet access. "The assignments provide me an excellent opportunity to represent a nice mix of the issues and interests that directly impact the residents of York County," D’Orsie stated. He expressed enthusiasm about his new role on this committee, citing his background in communications as beneficial for drafting legislation in this evolving industry.
Returning for a second term on his other three committees, D’Orsie has been appointed Republican chairman of the Education Committee’s Subcommittee on Special Education. The Education Committee deals with state matters concerning public and private schools from pre-K through grade 12 basic education, as well as post-secondary education.
The Commerce Committee's responsibilities include creating legislation affecting Pennsylvania companies and overseeing program implementation. Meanwhile, the Labor and Industry Committee focuses on employment-related issues such as unemployment compensation, job training, child labor laws, workers’ compensation, and the Prevailing Wage Act.
Standing committees are integral to the legislative process; they review all bills assigned to them. Committees may conduct hearings on legislation, consider amendments to pending bills, and report them to the full House for voting.
D’Orsie took office along with other House members on January 7th to commence the new session. The 47th Legislative District he represents includes parts of York County such as Conewago, Manchester, East Manchester and Hellam townships; boroughs like Hallam, Manchester, Mount Wolf and Wrightsville; plus northern Springettsbury Township.
