HARRISBURG – Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) has raised concerns about the expenditure on state-funded lanyards during a budget hearing with the Department of Labor and Industry. Grove, who serves as the Republican chairman of the House Labor and Industry Committee, questioned the Department about the $10,000 contract for lanyards and vinyl identification badges for the unemployment compensation office's 1,689 employees.

The Department explained that the new lanyards are necessary to comply with federal requirements mandating ID badges to be displayed above the waist.

Grove stated, "Do we really need a contract for 10,000 lanyards? Maybe the department can ratchet down the amount and buy what is expected to be needed." He highlighted this situation as a "prime example of government raising costs, which will be paid for by taxpayers." Grove suggested that the department should coordinate with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to address what he considers wasteful government mandates.

His concerns suggest a call for more stringent oversight of government spending and the need for cost-effective compliance with federal requirements.
