As police departments nationwide face officer shortages, two York County departments have been awarded a combined $38,000 in Law Enforcement Recruitment grant funding. House Appropriations Republican Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover) and Representatives Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and Joe D’Orsie (R-Manchester) made the announcement.

"Keeping communities safe is one of our top priorities and ensuring there are enough police officers is an important part of public safety," the representatives stated. "The grants will help local departments recruit and train officers to protect residents."

Northern York County Regional Police received $28,000, while Newberry Township Police were granted $10,000. The funds will be used to hire and train for vacant law enforcement positions within these departments. The funding comes through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The grants aim to assist with Act 120 training and recruitment activities for police officers. Municipal officers are required to complete Act 120 training.
