Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill has announced that over $2.1 million in state funding from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program has been allocated to the Fire Chiefs’ and Fire Fighters’ Association of York County. The funds will be used for a new training facility at the York County Public Safety Training Center in Manchester Township, replacing two outdated buildings with modern spaces for fire and emergency personnel training.
"Our firefighters and emergency responders face life-threatening situations every day, and they deserve the very best resources and training we can offer," Phillips-Hill stated. "This new facility will help equip our first responders all across the county with the skills and experience they need to respond effectively, protect our communities, and save lives."
The proposed building will be 150 by 60 feet, two stories tall, with areas on the first floor designated for fire apparatus, equipment storage, and decontamination. The second floor will contain administrative offices, classrooms that can be reconfigured as needed, and locker rooms with showers. It will also include a fire sprinkler system and a large-capacity elevator for improved accessibility.
Chad Deardorff, president of the Fire Chiefs’ and Fire Fighters’ Association of York County, expressed gratitude: "We are extremely grateful to Governor Shapiro for awarding us this grant...to Senator Philips-Hill for her support on this project...and to everyone that has continued to support the York County Public Safety Training Center (YCPSTC) and all the first responders throughout York County." He emphasized that this addition would enhance their ability to meet training needs across various emergency services disciplines.
