Senator Mike Regan announced the allocation of nearly $5 million in state grants for projects within Pennsylvania's 31st Senate District, which includes Cumberland and York Counties. The funding is sourced from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) Local Share Account program, utilizing gaming revenue to support public interest projects across the state.
"The funding made available through the Commonwealth Financing Authority will provide the support necessary to move forward with these important community projects," stated Regan. "These projects will make a positive impact on the residents who live in these communities and I look forward to their completion."
In Cumberland County, six grants totaling over $2.5 million have been awarded. Notable allocations include more than $36,000 for land acquisition by the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council and over $100,000 for design costs related to an addition at Friends of the West Shore Theatre. Hampden Township will receive nearly $1 million for pool rehabilitation, while Mechanicsburg Borough has been allocated more than $675,000 for a streetscape project. Additional funds include nearly $50,000 for New Cumberland Borough's recreation plan and $750,000 for South Middleton Township Municipal Authority's waterline extension.
York County will benefit from five grants exceeding $1.3 million. This includes over $185,000 for Franklintown Borough Municipal Authority's alternative water source development and more than $240,000 for Lewisberry Borough's Walnut Lane restoration. Newberry Township is set to receive over $250,000 for police equipment purchases. Northeastern York County Sewer Authority has been granted $160,000 to close an effluent line in East Manchester Township. Additionally, York County Economic Alliance secured nearly $750,000 on behalf of Leg Up Farm for energy efficiency upgrades.
The CFA was created in 2004 as part of Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development to manage economic stimulus initiatives like this one under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act.
An additional grant was approved through a different CFA program: York Railway Company received $500,000 from the Multimodal Transportation Fund grant program to enhance railroad infrastructure at its Lincoln Yard Facility in York City.
