The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has approved a preliminary permit application for the construction of a hydroelectric pump storage facility at Cuffs Run in Chanceford Township. This decision has drawn criticism from Rep. Wendy Fink, who represents District 94, which includes the affected area.
Rep. Fink expressed her opposition to the project, stating, “I remain adamantly opposed to the proposed project at Cuffs Run.” She highlighted concerns about the impact on local farmlands, scenic trails, forested lands, and residents who may be displaced by the construction. Fink added that she has been actively advocating for farmers and landowners in her district.
To counter the proposal, Fink's office facilitated public comments against the project and gathered over 100 petition signatures. She expressed disappointment with FERC's decision, saying it overlooked her constituents' concerns: “It disappoints me that FERC prioritized its own plans over the concerns of my constituents.”
Fink warned that advancing the Cuffs Run project could negate investments exceeding $100 million intended to preserve the area's scenic value. She argued that Cuffs Run exemplifies the region’s agricultural heritage and attracts visitors and outdoor enthusiasts. "It disappoints me that FERC is willing to make these sacrifices in the name of ‘Green Energy,’” she remarked.
Despite her disappointment with FERC's approval, Rep. Fink affirmed her commitment to opposing the project alongside colleagues from York and Lancaster counties: “Our work is not done... We will continue to fight.”
