Two police departments in York County have been awarded a total of $38,000 in grant funding to address officer shortages. The announcement was made by House Appropriations Republican Chairman Seth Grove and Representatives Kate Klunk and Joe D’Orsie.

"Keeping communities safe is one of our top priorities and ensuring there are enough police officers is an important part of public safety," the representatives stated. "The grants will help local departments recruit and train officers to protect residents."

The Northern York County Regional Police received $28,000, while the Newberry Township Police were granted $10,000. This funding will be used to fill vacant law enforcement positions through hiring and training efforts. The funds come from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The grants aim to support Act 120 training and recruitment activities for police officers. Municipal officers must complete Act 120 training as part of their requirements.
