Rep. Wendy Fink (R-Red Lion) recently held a House Republican Policy Committee hearing in Chanceford Township to discuss the status of the Lucky Road bridge and its impact on the local community. The bridge, which has been out of service since 2019 due to flood damage, serves approximately 50 homes, including those of local Amish farmers.

Fink emphasized the significance of the bridge for Chanceford Township residents: “The Lucky Road bridge may be a small, rural bridge, but it’s just as important to Chanceford Township residents as any major bridge in the Commonwealth.” She acknowledged the community's advocacy efforts, which have resulted in PennDOT advancing the repair project by two years, with construction now set to begin in 2025.

Rep. Joshua D. Kail (R-Beaver/Washington), chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, highlighted the importance of transportation infrastructure: “No matter if you are heading to work or traveling for leisure, transportation infrastructure is one of the most crucial components of a functioning society.”

Testifiers at the hearing included local officials and residents who discussed how the bridge closure has affected their daily lives. They noted detours have added about 10 minutes to travel times and raised concerns about delays for emergency services.

PennDOT representatives explained their data-driven approach to prioritizing infrastructure projects, considering factors such as funding and regulatory review. Fink expressed her desire for rural communities to have more input in such decisions: “Rural communities across the Commonwealth deal with these types of road and bridge issues, and the Lucky Road bridge is just one example.”

She underscored the need for ongoing communication between her district and PennDOT to continue improving conditions for future generations.
