County commissioners attend free dental clinic for underserved

Genbusiness003

York County issued the following announcement on June 13.

The York County Board of Commissioners -- President Commissioner Julie Wheeler, along with Commissioners Doug Hoke and Ron Smith, attended the kick-off for MOM-n-PA, an annual two-day free dental clinic for underserved Pennsylvanians, in which dental treatment was provided at NO COST to individuals who cannot afford dental care.

Treatment was provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here is an excerpt from President Commissioner Wheeler's speech, delivered at the kick-off:

"MOM-n-PA provides dental care for the relief of pain to thousands of the most needy, many of whom are from working families who do not have access or cannot afford dental insurance.

Many of these patients might otherwise have no hope of receiving care.

Nearly 300 volunteers, from PA and beyond are supporting these efforts today.  To the volunteers here today “THANK YOU” for giving of your time and talents.  It is a beautiful day, and you are spending it here, providing needed services to residents in our community.  Your passion and commitment to help others is appreciated!

Through your efforts, today and tomorrow you will be providing needed dental care to over 1,000 children and adults from our county and region, at no cost to the participants.

Just take a moment and reflect on the impact your actions will have on these individuals.  It's awe-inspiring."
