House Republican Appropriations Chairman Seth Grove has expressed his frustration with Governor Josh Shapiro's recent executive actions. In a public address, the Governor announced an Executive Order aimed at building a competitive Commonwealth workforce. However, Grove believes the order lacks key components necessary for its success.

The House Republican Appropriations Committee, under Grove's leadership, has been working on a 'Back to Basics' plan that identifies areas where government is falling short in its basic functions. "This includes our Commonwealth’s workforce, as the Governor has pointed out," Grove said. He acknowledged that the Governor's actions, including his previous order to eliminate certain college degree requirements for many open government positions, are positive steps but lack a comprehensive vision to solve the problem.

Grove criticized the absence of a requirement for state agency coordination in the Governor's plan. He argued that such coordination would be instrumental in connecting unemployed or underemployed individuals to Commonwealth employment opportunities. "With 600 open positions, government agencies should be searching for potential workers everywhere, but especially among individuals receiving government support," he added.

Grove urged the Governor to review their 'Back to Basics' plan before issuing his next Executive Order. He emphasized that their plan contains numerous ideas that do not require legislation and could be implemented immediately.
