State Senator Mike Regan | Pennsylvania
Senator Mike Regan of Pennsylvania's 31st District has expressed strong opposition to Governor Tom Wolf's mandate requiring certain state employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. In a statement, Senator Regan criticized the governor's decision, describing it as an overreach.
"Governor Wolf has yet again crossed a line with his decision to force 25,000 state employees to be vaccinated," stated Senator Regan. He argued that targeting individuals based on their job location or title is inappropriate, especially for roles that are already challenging under normal circumstances.
Senator Regan highlighted the current difficulties employers face in filling positions and suggested that the mandate could lead to a loss of dedicated staff in essential services such as state hospitals, centers for people with intellectual disabilities, veterans' homes, community health centers, and state correction institutions.
"These workers show up day-in and day-out and perform physically and mentally demanding jobs," he noted. According to him, these employees often make critical decisions about those they care for and should have the autonomy to make their own healthcare choices.
He concluded by saying that "personal health freedom has been thrown out the window" with what he described as an "un-American heavy-handed attempt at controlling Pennsylvanians."
