State Senator Mike Regan | Pennsylvania
Recently, Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman urged the House of Representatives to consider impeachment proceedings against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. According to Senator Mike Regan, Chairman of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, DA Krasner should resign due to his denial of a significant rise in crime within Philadelphia.
Senator Regan highlighted that lawlessness in Philadelphia has reached unprecedented levels over the past year, necessitating urgent action to change the city's course and ensure safety for its residents and visitors. He attributed this situation to DA Krasner's policies on bail reform and prosecution refusal, which he claims have increased the risk of victimization.
Regan criticized DA Krasner's approach as ineffective in enforcing laws, noting a record-setting number of over 550 murders last year as evidence of his failure. The lack of prosecutions and release of violent criminals under DA Krasner's tenure is said to have negatively affected city businesses and tourism.
During a recent visit to Philadelphia, Senator Regan toured dangerous neighborhoods and the Philadelphia Police Department’s Office of Forensic Science (OFS), where he saw illegal firearms collected from crimes. The OFS reported collecting over 40,000 casings from shootings in 2021 alone.
Drawing on his experience as a retired U.S. Marshal, Regan emphasized his commitment to ensuring safety across Pennsylvania communities. He stated that those committing gun-related crimes should be incarcerated rather than allowed control over the city.
In conclusion, Senator Regan called for the initiation of impeachment proceedings against DA Krasner by the House of Representatives, stressing that Philadelphians deserve enforced laws and safer streets.
