State Senator Mike Regan | Pennsylvania
The Senate Law and Justice Committee in Pennsylvania is set to hold a public hearing on February 7 at 10 a.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the North Office Building. The topic under discussion will be the legalization of adult-use marijuana in the state.
Majority Chairman Mike Regan, representing Cumberland and York counties, initiated a co-sponsorship memo last year. The proposal aims to legalize cannabis use for adults and direct an expected $1 billion in tax revenues towards funding state police, crime prevention, and after-school programs for disadvantaged youth.
Senator Regan has been vocal about building on the success of Pennsylvania's medical marijuana program, which he helped establish as a member of the House of Representatives in 2016. The program has registered over 500,000 patients and caregivers since its inception.
"I want to build off the success of that program while ensuring its continued viability for the industry and its patients," said Senator Regan. "We must also make sure that Pennsylvanians receive their fair share from the sale of adult-use marijuana, not the cartels and gangs whose profits are comparable to Fortune 500 companies."
The hearing will be available via livestream at law.pasenategop.com, with media coverage encouraged.
