WellSpan York Hospital has expanded its cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs to address the increasing demand for heart care. The expansion adds advanced procedural rooms, enhancing access to cardiovascular services. Dr. James Harvey, an interventional cardiologist at WellSpan Health, stated, “Together, we are making a difference one life at a time by delivering the highest-quality care right here in York. With this expansion, we can impact even more lives.” He noted that the demand for heart and vascular services is rapidly growing across York County.
The hospital's interventional cardiology program began over 40 years ago under Dr. Jay Nicholson and has grown significantly since then. The recent project created three additional labs with space for future growth in cardiac services. These labs offer hybrid capabilities to treat various heart diseases including coronary artery disease and cardiac arrhythmias.
Notably, WellSpan York Hospital remains the only hospital in the United States with an in-lab 4DCT imaging modality for complex cardiac care. The hospital hosts educational live streams of procedures to share knowledge with physicians worldwide.
Dr. Alyssa Moyer, president of WellSpan York Hospital, commented on the expansion: “This expansion of our cardiac services means more patients in our community will have access to the personalized heart care they need, close to home.”
Beyond cardiac services, WellSpan York Hospital is expanding facilities across multiple specialties including interventional radiology and behavioral health units. Construction is ongoing for a surgical and critical care tower featuring new technology and additional cardiovascular intensive care units.
