DOVER AREA HIGH SCHOOL: Welcome Back Secondary Students!

Backtoschool

Dover Area High School issued the following announcement.

Good Afternoon Secondary Families,

We are very excited for our students to return back to our new and beautifully renovated buildings on Wednesday. While there is still work to be done in both buildings, I know the students will be excited to see their “new” schools. Additionally, Dover Area School District has worked very hard implementing our Health and Safety Plan to create an environment for students that is safe, healthy, and welcoming during the current pandemic situation.

I would like to take a minute to remind families of some very important items as you plan to send your students back to school Wednesday. First, we have worked very hard to infuse technology into every classroom. This allows parents to make the best choice for their student’s schooling and prepares the district, should we need to close a building for a short time due to a COVID-19 situation. It is vitally important that students plug their iPad in each night and remember to bring their iPad to school each day. Students who do not have access to their iPad will be at a disadvantage during the school day.

Second, all staff and students are required to wear a face covering and social distance at all times – waiting for the bus, riding the bus, walking into the building, during the day, and riding home on the bus. Teachers will schedule “mask breaks” as needed.

Third, and probably most importantly – we need parents to assess their students health each morning and NOT send them to school if they are exhibiting any symptoms of illness. This one item could mean the difference between school being physically open and students being fully online.

Finally, opening school as safely as possible would not be achievable without all of the good decisions made by our families for their children. Families who chose to go Online Blended Instruction either five days or three allowed us to better socially distance students who are in classrooms. Families who are able to transport their students allowed the buses to better social distance. Opening our secondary schools this week in Dover has truly been a collaboration between the school, community, and families. We thank you!

So, please enjoy the start to your week and we look forward to seeing your students on Wednesday. Also, remember to check our district website for the most up-to-date information regarding the 2020-2021 school year and any information you may need as you prepare for the opening of school.
