York College of Pennsylvania is set to receive nearly $350,000 in state funding to continue the renovation of a former papermill site on its campus. This financial assistance was announced by State Representatives Seth Grove and Carol Hill-Evans, along with Senators Mike Regan and Kristin Phillips-Hill.
“York College is a vital part of the York County community,” stated Rep. Grove. He emphasized the importance of such investments as York College does not receive direct state funding like other state-related institutions. The college president, Thomas Burns, expressed gratitude for the funding, noting that it will aid in further investing in students and community partnerships connected to Knowledge Park.
Knowledge Park is an innovative project designed to accommodate businesses in the York area. MANTEC, a non-profit manufacturing service partner, will be its newest tenant. The state grant of $349,978 will support the construction of office space and a training facility at Knowledge Park.
The partnership aims to foster collaboration around innovation clusters using York College’s academic resources. Senator Mike Regan highlighted this project as an example of how public-private partnerships can drive economic growth while preserving heritage.
Senators Regan and Phillips-Hill alongside Representative Hill-Evans were instrumental in securing funding for this initiative. Rep. Hill-Evans expressed her satisfaction in advocating for resources benefiting her legislative district and supporting the long-standing relationship with York College.
“This endeavor is a win for our students, it’s a win for our employers, it’s a win for our county, and it’s a win for our future,” said Sen. Phillips-Hill.
Funding comes from the Local Share Account funded by gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority under Act 2004-71.
